We were inspired by our good friend Yasha Estraikh from Solovey, and fellow Ukrainian, Nazar, from the Prep Kitchen production team, to support War Child, a charity which is very close to their hearts. Solovey (nightingale in Ukrainian) is a campaign brand proudly born to sing the Ukrainian spirit of courage, creativity and hope, while raising £1m for its refugees. Yasha donates 100% of the profits from Solovey vodka to War Child, and we helped to support this cause by donating 100% of the profits from the sales of a specially created Prep Kitchen dish. We thank all of our customers for helping to support this effort.
In the summer of 2021, at the tender age of 15, Nazar left Krasilow in the Ukrainian region of Khmeinytskyi to try and find work in the UK. He really misses his national cuisine and often bakes a traditional Napolean cake to remind him of home, but what he really misses is his mum and grandma’s home cooking! His favourite meals back home were borscht, salo, vareniki, and of course, the national favourite, chicken Kyiv. Food has such a powerful connection to our emotions, and eating traditional dishes from his homeland really helps Nazar feel connected to his family.
To support this special fund-raising initiative, our chefs created a dish based on the classNameic Ukrainian dish, Chicken Kyiv. Yasha and Nazar say that this is the one dish that really reminded them of home! Our Chicken Kyiv Pasta Bake was a deconstructed version of the original with a delicious twist. It’s great to know that every delicious mouthful helped children all around the world.
